Masoor Dal (Lentil)

Indian dal, ideal to serve with rice.


Serves 4


1 cup dried lentils
4 cups filtered water
1 inch ginger ground
1 green chillies ground
1 onion chopped
1 tsp turmeric
1 tsp garam masala
1 tsp asafoetida / hing
1 tsp sea salt
2 tbsp coconut oil


  • Cook dried lentils and water: bring to boil, cover and cook on low heat for about an hour, till lentils are completely cooked.
  • Heat oil in a pan. Add oninons, coook till tender, add ginger, chillies, turmeric, hing, garam masala. Sautee for about 1 munute.
  • Add cooked lentils. Taste and add salt as needed. Heat for a couple of minutes, and remove from heat. Serve on Rice.
